Gymnastics is popular all over the world. It has been around for more than 2,000 years. Cities in Greece had gyms. People ran, jumped, and stretched there. The parallel bars and the balance beam were created in the early 1800s. The events are still in the sport today.

Gymnastics is a sport that tests flexibility, strength, and balance. Men’s gymnastics has six events. They are floor exercise, pommel horse, rings, vault, parallel bars, and high bar. Women’s gymnastics has four events. They are balance beam, uneven bars, vault, and floor exercise. Gymnasts do a set number of moves in each event. In many competitions, gymnasts begin with a 10.0 score. Judges remove points for mistakes. Gymnasts push themselves to earn a perfect score!

Gymnastics became popular in the United States in the 1970s. People watched the sport on television during the Olympics.
